Temple in the Middle of the Desert
In the middle of the Whispering Sand Ocean, there is a Hindu Tengger place of worship called Pura Luhur Poten Mount Bromo. This temple was built in 2000 which functions as a place of worship for Lord Brohmo or Lord Brahma. Dewa Brohmo himself is the God of Creation, manifested in Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa. The name Mount Bromo itself is taken from the name of this god Brohmo. The temple building faces westward so that visitors who enter the temple face east. Likewise, religious activities are carried out facing the rising sun.
Pura Luhur Poten has three areas or mandalas, namely mandala nista, mandala madya, and main mandala. Mandala nista is the front area of Pura Luhur Poten which is a transitional zone between the outside and the inside of the temple. Mandala madya is located between the mandala nista and the main mandala. This mandala is used as a place to prepare for worship ceremonies. Meanwhile, the worship itself is carried out in the main mandala because in this area there is a place of worship called the Padma. Each mandala has an entrance in the form of a Bentar temple decorated with a combination of Javanese and Balinese culture.
